As the sun slowly rose in the eastern sky on Monday, February 23, 2015, it illuminated and cleansed a frozen and weary earth. God’s Son’s brilliant light shone down. It enveloped and gently caressed a very special and precious young lady, Stefanie Nicole Harasta. She followed that light dancing and singing, free of her limitations, to her heavenly home.

Stefanie was born in Toledo Hospital on December 11,1982 to loving parents Mike and Sharon (Harpel) Harasta. Also left to cherish her memory are her great brother, George Nathan Benore,  special Godparents Svea Cooke and Don Frankhouse,  whom she loved dearly. She will be missed by family members, friends and so many  who were touched by her bright spirit and oh, that infectious SMILE. Receiving one of her smiles and hugs you knew you were special. Waiting for her in heaven are her grandparents Harold and Peggy Harpel and Bob and Betty Harasta, many other loving friends and relatives and two doggy buddies, Butkus & Daisy.

Stefanie is a graduate of Bedford High School and earned an Administrative Assistant Certificate from Monroe County  Community College.   She enjoyed vacations in Maine and Traverse City where she felt so free parasailing high in the sky  with her favorite captain and friend, Saburi Boyer.

As a poster child for Easter Seals and We Care, she helped raise funds for others. She will be remembered for her signing of the telethon’s theme song “Friends ” while her friend ,Brian Welch, sang .

Gardening, crafting cards with Mom, playing games with family and friends ,watching Michigan football, “GO BLUE”, and fishing with Rexie  and Dad “Set the hook, Boog!” were a few of her favorite pastimes. Each of these brought such joy to her.

Stefanie was an active member of St. Luke’s Lutheran Church where she helped with Sunday and Vacation Bible Schools. She especially loved her high five she received each Sunday from Pastor Frank Paine , her constant spiritual and loving supporter throughout most of Stefanie’s life journey.

The family would like to thank The Toledo Hospital Pediatric and Neurological Units , doctors, nurses, respiratory therapists and staff for the compassionate care they gave Stefanie throughout her precious life, but especially in these last few weeks.  Gratitude also  given for the loving care Stefanie received from her home care nurses and therapists the past few years.

Visitation will be from 2-9 pm Friday, February 27, 2015, at the Michael W. Pawlak Funeral Home, 1640 Smith Rd. (at Jackman) Temperance.  Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 28, 2015,  at 11:00 am in St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, 1690 Sterns Road (at Jackman) Temperance, MI, where she will lie in state after 10:00 am.  Pastor Frank Paine, officiating.

To honor Stefanie’s memory,  in lieu of flowers, please make  donations to Make -A- Wish Foundation of Michigan which granted Stefanie’s wish of swimming with dolphins in Hawaii , or donations in her memory to St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, Temperance MI.
